Tuliptime in Moulton 113 years ago

Spalding Guardian logo

This wonderful picture of Tulip Time at Moulton was first used in these newspapers in 1950 under the heading, Tulip Time 50 years ago.

It was originally sent in by Mrs M Cushing of Stickney, who said her father Mr J E Smith and Mr John Cunnington were among the first growers in the district. They brought bulbs from Holland when Mrs Cushing was just a girl.

Days of Spalding’s old Corn Exchange

Published on 04/04/2013 11:58

The solemn-looking little girl pictured in the 1950s in Spalding’s old Corn Exchange – on the site of South Holland Centre – is Vivien Earl, according to Alan Lambert, the chairman of the Friends of Moulton Mill, where the original photograph is on display.

The photograph is one of the artefacts left at the mill by the last miller, John Biggadike, whose family were corn merchants as well as millers

4th Spalding Scouts Stephen Farrer, Ian Sharrocks, Michael Groves, Karl Gernery and Andrew Marlin found making – and tossing – pancakes harder than they imagined.

Around 20 youngsters rolled up their sleeves for the cooking session and assistant leader Peter Admans received his warrant from district commissioner Geof Stoner at the Monkshouse Lane headquarters in Spalding.
